CALL FOR PAPERS

SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND THE CHANGING DEMOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT OF EUROPE
6-8 September, 2007, Budapest

Demographic processes are embedded in a specific social and economic environment and are interwoven
with structural (labour market dynamics, redistribution) processes. On the one hand, these structures and
institutions influence demographic behaviour; on the other hand, demographic processes influence the
positioning within these structures. For instance, people belonging to different social strata differ in their
resources and opportunities, and this influences their demographic options. At the same time, these
differences in demographic behaviour close and open different paths of economic and social well-being.
This conference aims to understand, analyse and evaluate the interrelations of demographic, social and
economic dynamics in order to enhance our knowledge of differences and similarities in the young adult life
course in Europe. Regarding the social and economic context, special attention is given to social structure
(esp. educational differences), disadvantageous social positions (the poor and unemployed) and excluded
social groups (minorities). These different aspects of height: 120 cm
