Historical demographic research at the HDRI aims at a systematic analysis of the fertility, mortality, family formation and migration trends and their geographic differences in 19-20th century Hungary. In the last years stress was laid on studying the micro-level aspects of the demographic transition in Hungary. Using individual-level and longitudinal data of family reconstitution studies and applying the method of event-history analysis researchers study how socio-economic, religious and other factors influenced demographic development during the transition. Researchers are also interested in the study of family structures in 19th century Hungary and take part in MOSAIC-Project (see below).
